Loading ...Cappadocia is a gorgeous region in central Turkey, made famous for its incredible rock formations. Resembling fairy chimneys, the soft porous rock is believed to have been formed by volcanic activity millions of years ago. Whole subterranean villages, complete with churches and fortresses have been carved from the rock. Used largely as hiding places by the Hittites and early Christians, the World Heritage listed region of Goreme became a monastic centre in the 1st Century.
Some parts of the region are still inhabited today, and it’s a great place to purchase carpets (something Turkey is famous for) and for mountain biking and hiking. But in our opinion, these two in the video had the right idea. The best way to see Cappadocia by far is to catch an early-morning hot-air balloon flight! Look out for great shots of the Aegean coast and Istanbul too. Looks like a great trip!
